Music

I did mention that I like music, but I feel like I must dedicate special post just for it, since - it's playing really quite a big part in my life.

Usually, no matter if I work, chat, - cycling or driving -- no matter if I'm in good or very bad mood - there's almost always playing music which marge with my feelings and things which I'm doing.
I won't say however, that I can't stand silence, I actually appreciate silence, and there are times (or even whole periods) when I am in silence.

Shallow

I mentioned that I like quite a lot of different music styles; I'm really not trying to limit myself whatsoever. I mostly ignoring the background of artist - as much as I can. I guess that's why I can enjoy songs which are quite shallow (or at least I consider them as shallow). So I'm talking about songs like:

Sugababes - Too Lost In You
Jordin Sparks - Battlefield

... and I wanted to add Kelly Clarkson too, but Sony Music Entertainment decided that we Slovenians aren't good enough, or worthy* to be able to listen Kelly's music (at least on YouTube), so I guess I won't (can't) post it. :)

* Yeah, it's a little joke, I'm sure Sony Music Entertainment has no idea that Slovenia even exists.

Melancholic

So let's move from what I consider as not so good, cheap commercial things, towards something I feel is actually really good; let me add something I consider as ART without any doubt, and I encourage you now, that you watch video too since it's good (no half naked girls or anything like that, I promise!)

Moby - One Time We Lived (video produced by Mark Pellington)

Not just that I like Moby's music (and cute videos), but I admire him as a person too, at least as much as I can admire person which I don't know personally. Here's another of his songs (here too, video is worth watching):

Moby - Dream About Me

I feel tempt to post more his songs, but I won't - I'll rather give you link to his YouTube channel and, I think you should check it out.

I guess most of Moby's songs are fairly melancholic, and since we're on this subject, I have to post All mine by Portishead, video isn't anything special, it is (on my opinion) even a little bit scary (what do I know though, I don't watch a lot of horror movies):

You maybe won't agree if I'll put Depeche Mode under the melancholic title, just try to ignore it, I'm not categorizing music, but just going from one artist to another as I feel it makes sens.
So Freelove by Depeche Mode, is really meaningful, you should listen closely to what they're singing, since lyrics are amazing - I agree with them so strong that I could print them and put them on my wall; Beside that, you probably should watch video too, since video is art by itself - it's very nice, meaningful and goes very beautiful with the songs.

Trance

Moving forward, when I'm cycling I like to listen a bit more energetic music, for example trance; So trance is quite specific genre, I think (having my friends in mind), most people doesn't like it, and I guess most people doesn't even get it. They hear "drums" and they run away, since they're thinking that trance is something to be played in clubs and something on what young (drugged) people would dance. That's true only partly. :)

Trance really is meant for dance I guess, consequently It's meant to be mixed - therefore there are quite long periods of just beat in the beginning and in the ends of songs, especially if you're listening "extended" versions. However, I encourage you to really listen some trance songs, and try to get lost in them, try to feel them - and let they move you into another dimension.

Another silly thing why some people doesn't like trance is the fact that is quite electronic - in other words, it's not produced by "real" instruments, but mostly with (scary) things like: Synthesizer, Drum machine, Sequencer, Sampler; beside those, you can hear piano quite often - I think that's the reason why I like trance SO much. But even piano sound is often just a fake. So, since it's produced by those scary machines - can that be the reason not to like it - does because of that trance lose any value whatsoever? -- I'll answer with the quote:

Play the music, not the instrument.

Or as Leopold Stokowski said:

A painter paints pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence.

And I'll add, the tools are in both cases insignificant, those who think about tools, failing to see pure expression of artist behind those tools.

So OK, few examples of what trance is, and hope they'll give you a bit more clear view about it, but - you must take your time and really listen them, whole songs, and don't do anything else while listening. Trance really isn't shallow music, so I guess it does requite your willingness to listening it, and willingness to surrender into it.

Above & Beyond Press Tranquility Base - Oceanic (Original Mix) + Above&Beyond - Indonesia

If you surrender to it, it really can have big impact, it sure can move you - so it's worth, it is rewarding, no doubt about that. Like I mention before, the beginning of trance song, are often only empty and plain beats (drums), however song do evolve soon enough and reveal depth and beauty.

Talla 2XLC - Shine (Paul Mendez vs Zero 3 Remix)

I love trance, because of depth, which reveals on so many levels, of course often in lyrics too, good example of that would be Talla 2XLC, No in between:

...there is no void when all i have is real...

Another good example would be Kai Tracid, Conscious, and I could go on and post more by Kai, but you can found it on your own, you should check "Destyni's path", "Life is too short" and "4 just 1 day" for sure.

New Age / Ambient

I see sense, that I go from trance to New Age and Ambient since, not just that those two are connected with each other, but both are connected with trance.

New Age music is defined more by the effect or feeling it produces rather than the instruments used in its creation; it may be electronic, acoustic, or a mixture of both. There is a significant overlap of sectors of New Age music, ambient music, classical music, jazz, electronica, world music, chillout, space music - and trance too.

Ambient music is a musical genre that focuses largely on the timbral characteristics of sounds, often organized or performed to evoke an "atmospheric", "visual" or "unobtrusive" quality.

Good examples would be:

Delerium - Stopwatch Hearts
Amethystium - Autumn Interlude

And in the end an amazing Icelandic Sigur Rós - Viorar Vel Til Loftarasa, and I strongly encourage you to watch the video too - since it's absolutely amazing (it has English subtitles).

Anything else...

So I think I should end here, beside mentioned I like rock, pop and classical(!) too, you can check my Last.fm profile, if you're interested what I like - just in general - or if you maybe like my taste, and wanna find something good to listen. Another page you can go is it my YouTube profile - once again, only if you like my musical taste, or if you're interested. :)

For the end I'll post two of also great songs which I like a lot, one is The Cross by Within Temptation, and second is classical work Moonlight Sonata composed by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Within Temptation - The Cross
Moonlight Sonata (Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor "Quasi una fantasia")
