Site update: v4.1
Categories Everyday, PC, Web Comments (2)
Well, this was actually system's update, from version 0.60 to 0.65; For last month or even more, page wasn't working fully, since I had to turn off "RSS Reader" plug-in, that wasn't big deal since only "Tweets" and "Last.fm" weren't working (in sidebar). That's about front-side, but in the back, was couple of more "problems", which v0.65 will eliminate. The biggest thing was of course the lack of any spam filter. In other words, there was no spam filter whatsoever, so even comments and messages with 1.000 links were accepted.
And even more, to get rid of the spamers I had to edit .htaccess file - luckily I build .htaccess editor into system. But - it was still quite painful, but not as much, as the fact, that even if only for couple of minutes, my site was big pile of spam-trash, and everyone who visit it, saw all that nasty, ugly spam comments.
In version 0.65 I build basic anti-spam filter, and flood protection - if nothing else, that mean that I'll get rid of spam faster + it just won't be possible to post 100 bad comments in couple of minutes/hours. Also, won't be possible to post comments full of links, and/or words like "viagra". :)
Staying on spam topic, what did I achieve with version 0.65, were good fundamentals for further actions - very soon I'll finished akismet plug-in which will, I'm sure about it, kill all spam on this site. :)
Blacklist, first couple of hoursHowever, first minutes of 0.65 things looks just gret (or even amazing). Site did successfully kill couple of samp comments (yes already!) and ban first "spambot". Ho-ho-ho! :)
Other things added to administration were "Media" plug-in and a lot, a lot of improvements were made and a lot, a lot of bugs were killed.
The change which is more visible to users is Textile in comments, that mean no more HTML or anything like that - if you want some text to be bold you just write **bold** (double star), and double underscore for __italic__, if you want to post link you can just type it in like that: http://google.com and it will be converted into google.com, and if you wanna custom text with link, you can type "Mystic 1800":http://mystic1800.com - and this will be converted into Mystic 1800. That does make things easier, and more secure (since HTML tags aren't allow anymore in any shape, - and anything that even looks like a tag is removed / converted).
